Shoe grinding Studer for thin-walled ring machining
Studer presents a universal cylindrical grinding with a shoe grinding fixture solution for thin-walled rings and sleeves machining. The process ensures perfect roundness, to achieve a rolling element raceway with extremely precise surface-profile shape, extending service life of the rolling element. The solution’s clamping system achieves absolute concentricity from external diameter to internal diameter without deforming the workpiece, allowing one-clamping machining of the complete external and internal contour.
The method employed by Studer to clamp a thin-walled ring completely separates the workpiece support, a shoe grinding fixture, from the rotary drive, an electromagnetic chuck for torque introduction. The shoe grinding fixture (1) is clamped to the workpiece table, movable in Z-direction, with a horizontal supporting shoe (2) in oscillating shoe design and a vertical supporting shoe (3) in fixed shoe design, both with universal sliding inserts with fine adjustment. The electromagnetic chuck for introduction of the workpiece rotary movement (4) fixes the workpiece. The magnet pole boosters (5) are regularly overground in assembled state, to guarantee the flatness and perpendicularity of the magnet contact surface, radially adjustable and clamped in the T-slot. Studer universal shoe grinding fixtures are available in several graded sizes, covering the diameter range from 10 to 460 mm.
