Sky Tender Solutions specified the Victrex Peek polymer for the realization of the inner water tank on an innovative automatic and compact drink dispenser for airplanes. The weight-optimized inner water tank solution meets the aviation and food requirements, contributing on maintaining the taste and quality of drinks ensuring no contamination, even in case of prolonged contact with hot water. The Victrex thermoplastic is compliant with FDA 21 CRF 177.2415 requirements and the EC 1935/2004 for food contact. Victrex supported the constructor during material selection and tool design, enabling to integrate material’s properties and processing guidelines, as well as thermal and static behavior, at an early stage during the design of water thanks.

The high-flow polymer employed allowed to realize the inner tank with thin walls, efficiently manufactured using molding injection and saving in space and weight. The SkyTender automatic solution is expected to have positive impact on inflight service and environmental protection, allowing cabin crew to save time preparing and distributing drinks, but also replacing conventional packaging such as tins, cans or bottles, requiring less storage space and reducing waste. SkyTender reports that the dispenser can stay in service for approximately two weeks before it needs to be thoroughly cleaned, and the thermoplastic employed can withstand cleaning materials and disinfectants needed for this purpose long-term, even withstanding aggressive fuels and hydraulics fluids in other applications on the aviation industry.
