The German food producer Hengstemberg implemented ad efficient solution for tracking and tracing with Cognex’s DatMan 302 barcode readers, allowing picked gherkins bearing the mark quality of Made in Germany to be traced all the way back to the respective grower. The producer implemented automation of its processes as a means of efficiently meeting the ever stricter requirements of its customers with regard to transparency and proof of origin.
Right at the start of the production, the DataMan 302 detects and reads the labels on the containers with the classified batches of gherkins. As soon as manufacturer and product data read has been successfully verified, the gherkins enter the downstream production. Long-term storage of data enables Hengstemberg to trace back the batches even after a period of years to the respective field and grower. The DataMan 302 barcode readers belong to the most versatile series from Cognex, with numerous lighting and lens variants for reliable reading even of the most difficult-to-read barcodes and data matrix codes, including high speed lines.
Integrated and controllable lighting as well as liquid lens with adjustable focus enable the optimum setting of working distance, in order to achieve the best possible read rates, also of damaged, distorted, blurred and low-contrast codes, thanks to an intelligent auto-tuning function automatically selecting the optimum settings for the integrated lighting, autofocus and imager.
