Ssab steel for elevated transportationERT

The high-capacity heavy transportation with elevated track Futran System by south african company Milotek reached finals in the Swedish steel prize 2015, annually awarded by Ssab to the most innovative products and solutions using their high-strength steels. The Futran System takes advantage by the low total weight, high load capacity, high wear resistance and good bendability, weldability and machinability offered by the high-strength steels Strenx 700 and Hardox 450 from Ssab, utilized for many components such as the track, legs of the superstructure, the suspension system, the hanger brackets and the skips used for ore haulage.

The solution is environmentally aware and consists of train and wagons hanging from an elevated rail, supported by vertical posts: the system has few moving parts, modularized components with simplified design and minimized maintenance costs. Installation is also easier in respect of traditional rail, truck, conveyor belt and underground mine haulage systems, and the employ of high-strength steel cuts down costs by 85%.
