Shipbuilding thermoplastic by Simona
Simowood is a bioplastic sheet made of Resysta, an innovative hybrid material based on rice and a specific thermoplastic, a sustainable alternative suitable to be used in substitution of wood, produced in large-scale by Simona. The extruded sheets are processed to look and feel like wood, and can be employed in shipbuilding, offering a material highly resistant to external influences and weather, such as sun, rain, snow and salt water. Simowood is also resistant to humidity, with excellent anti-slip properties when wet, compliant to C Group classification to DIN 51097.
The thermoplastic is also available in the low-flammable Simowood IMO, compliant with regulations of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), for bulk-head, wall and ceiling linings, as well as floor coverings. The material is particularly suited for outdoor applications, such as outdoor furniture, wellness areas and wet rooms and exhibition stands design. Combining properties of wood and plastic, the sheets can be machined with standard processing equipments, but are also suitable for thermoprocessing, so that they can be sawn, milled, drilled, bolted, glued and planed like wood, but also allowing welding, thermoforming and deep-drawing.
