Nexen introduced a corrosion-resistant stainless steel version of its patented precision roller pinion system RPS. The RPS engages two teeth simultaneously to achieve superior accuracy with zero backlash at any length. The solution uses needle bearings to support the rollers that engage the teeth, eliminating the sliding friction found in many other motion control systems, leading to an efficiency greater than 99%.
The high efficiency reduces friction, heat and wear, providing a long life of 60.000.000 pinion revolutions or up to 36 million meters. Quite and efficient, the Nexen’s RPS solution provides a low maintenance and durable alternative to rack and pinion, ball screw and belt drive technology. Further key features include high speed of up to 11 m/s, superior accuracy of +- 50 µm and unlimited length, with customs lengths and modular components available. The RPS is used for a wide range of applications including laser and plasma cutting machines and gantry machining centers.
