Presa appointed in EU Commission DG Budget

Silvano Presa is the new deputy director-general in the Budget department (DG Budg) of the European Commission. An italian national, Presa joined the Commission in 1985, as an administrator in the directorate-general for economic and financial affairs, and then started in the Budget department as a deputy head of unit dealing with human and administrative resources, becoming director in 2006.

In this newly created post, Presa gathers a vast experience in a wide range of sectors, having been involved in many key Commission policies in the past, including the creation of innovative instruments launched under the Juncker Commission such as the European fund for strategic investments (EFSI), Trust funds and the Facility for refugees in Turkey. A future key task for Presa in his current position of director is to prepare the Commission’s annual budgetary proposals, and to participate in the budgetary negotiations with the European Parliament and the Council, with the task to ensure the best possible interaction of budget programmes with financial instruments and Trust funds available.
