Integrated circuit design, Siemens acquires MentorERT

Siemens closes the acquisition of Mentor Graphics, expanding its software business by entering the integrated circuit (IC) design and embedded software segments. Mentor is now part of Siemens’ product lifecycle management (PLM) software business, making the company a world supplier of industrial software for the digital enterprise offering the convergence of PLM and electronic design automation (EDA) software.

Siemens positioned itself to provide a seamless and comprehensive software solution addressing complex development needs of today’s smart products using embedded electronics, from smart phones and household applications to automobiles, aircraft and machinery. Since 2007, Siemens invested approximately $ 10 billion in multiple software companies, merging their technologies into its Digital enterprise suite. Mentor’s software tools such as Electrical & wire harness design and Electronic systems design complements Siemens’ existing solutions, while tools for IC design, verification, test and manufacturing expand the company’s offerings and expertise into adjacent segments, to a new set of clients.
