Helium storage facility Air Liquide
Air Liquide commissioned a large pure helium storage facility in Gronau-Epe, in the North Rhine-Westphalia region, 120 km from Düsseldorf, to ensure a reliable and predictable helium supply to customer’s, with optimum transport lead-time. In the facility, pure helium is stored at 1.300 meters underground in significant volume, in a salt reservoir managed by Air Liquide, owning the right to use the cavity.
Natural brine is employed to adjust the storage volume, and the company is able to store in Gronau-Epe more than one year of its helium sourcing, providing a reliable and complete helium offer, with strategic sources, global logistics and complete customer installations. Helium storage is safe and environmentally neutral, being it an inert, non-inflammable gas present in very small quantity in the air, and Air Liquid helium logistic actually encompasses a large helium ISO container fleet, each container transporting helium at -296°C, with a fully digitalized piloting by dedicated teams in USA, Europe, Middle-East and Asia.
