Fischer, manufacturer of high-precision spindles, adopted the WireDress electro erosive dressing technology by Studer in its grinding process. The solution is in particular a CNC universal grinding machine S41, specifically designed for large workpieces, with a length between centers of 1000/1600 mm and centre height of 225/275 mm, able to process workpieces with high precision up to a maximum weight of 250 kg.
The core technology of the S41 is the machine-integrated WireDress dressing technology developed by Studer. Here, the dressing is done at full wheel speed, and in contrast to conventional mechanical or external EDM dressing, WireDress dressing occours by a modified wire erosion in the grinding machine, where the grinding oil serves as dielectric. The dressing process is contactless and wear-free, and the grit itself is not dressed, the metallic bond around the grit is removed. Using a bond with a high dimensional stability, almost any profile can be precision-contoured in the µm range, also achieving long dressing intervals.
Fischer obtained grinding speeds three to five times faster than with conventional technology, with absolute reproducibility, ground in a tolerance of less than 1 µm and a productivity increase of up to 70% for certain materials. In addition, not only straight forms can be dressed, but also very fine profiles, opening new design possibilities for engineers.
