Efficiency in fish feed extrusion with Leroy-Somer
Aller Aqua, a Denmark-based specialist in fish feed for aquaculture and fish farming with exports in more than 60 countries worlwide, replaced an ageing, damaged DC motor on its principal extruder with a Dyneo permanent magnet motor from Leroy-Somer, a Nidec Group company.
The solution enabled the saving of at least 135.000 kWh of electricity per year for the end-user operations at the headquarters in Christiansfeld, near Kolding, Denmark. Extruding feed stuff is indeed a very energy-intensive process. In addition to the increased energy efficiency achieved with the 310 kW Dyneo permanent magnet synchronous motor, the company also gained significant savings on maintenance costs, allied to increased machine availability. The previous DC motor featured a brush and collector system, which comprised wear parts. The implementation of the Dyneo motor also allowed to simplify the existing installation by eliminating the cooling/ventilation circuit required previously by the replaced IP23 CD motor.
The Dyneo LSRPM motor, part of the Express Availability offer from Leroy-Somer, is available in a compact or IEC standard version. The solution is easy to integrate, and offers rapid return of investment, fewer than three years in the case of Aller Aqua.
