SKF invested SEK 225 million to modernize distribution centres in Europe and India, aimed to build a more flexible and digitalized distribution base. The investments will improve customer lead-times and service levels, whilst contributing in reducing stock levels throughout SKF’s logistics chain. The recent completed investments in India and Belgium amount to a total of SEK 35 million, with a further SEK 190 million to be invested in upgrading existing distribution centers in France, Sweden and Italy during 2017 and 2018.

The inauguration of the India distribution centre in Pune, last 13 December 2016, allowed for the closure of 15 out of 27 previous stocking locations across India, whilst improving product availability for customers and distributors. During the first half of 2016 was also upgraded the SKF’s European distribution centre in Tongeren, Belgium: the new ‘goods-to-man’ workflow involves using automated goods retrieval systems and improved handling mechanisms. The upgrade resulted in a more efficient and ergonomically correct working environment, and reduces the time needed to pick, pack and ship customer orders.
