The range of NUB cylindrical roller bearings by NSK is expressly intended for continuous casting machines in demanding steel industry applications. The NUB series of cageless cylindrical roller bearings are designed to be particularly effective when used on the non-driven side of strand guide rolls, such as in the straightening section of continuous casting machines. The series offers low friction and excellent rolling contact self-alignment, maximizing service life in the challenging working conditions of steel industry.
These include elevated mechanical stress, coping with cooling water in both liquid and mist form and increased wear on rolling parts due to very low speeds of the roller table drives (less than 10 rpm). Misalignments as large as 12 angular minutes have zero effect on the successful operation on service life of NUB series bearings, allowing to compensate for any thermal expansion of the strand guide rolls.
In contrast to conventional spherical roller bearings, pure rolling friction in NUB bearings occurs thanks to predominant line contact in the raceway. Friction is therefore lower and wear is reduced, and a simple snap-ring is used to attach the inner ring, ensuring straightforward installation.
