Bearings SKF for high speed spindles

Posted 18 January 2016

SKF provided super-precision angular contact ball bearings for the new generation of high speed and lightweight automotive machine tool spindles of Vigel. The multipurpose and modular Vigel spindles allow quick and easy change, reducing downtime and manufacturing times, while improving the quality and complexity of components. The SKF’s special bearing arrangement, coming from an over 30 years long collaboration with Vigel, also makes spindles suitable for use in both horizontal and vertical machining centers, and able to handle a wide variety of stresses imposed by different speeds and axial loads from different machining operations.

Compact and lightweight SKF bearings have been designed to run at extremely high speeds, offering excellent stiffness, load carrying capability and operating life, are supplied with ceramic balls and protected by integral seals, mounted on both sides of the bearing and manufactured from oil and wear resistant NBR, reinforced with steel inserts, eliminating the risk of contamination from cutting fluids or minute particles of metal swarfs. The special design of the seal also minimizes frictional losses and rolling resistance.
