Additive manufacturing, SLM outgrows marketERT

SLM Solutions registered sales of metal-based additive manufacturing technologies up by 85% in the first half of 2016, and by 105% in the second quarter, outgrowing the overall world market, which according to Wohlers Associates put on an average of 31% between 2013 and 2015. The company lifted sales in the first six months of 2016 to € 33,5 million, with the bulk of it continuing to come from machinery sales.

SLM also doubled its consolidated revenue in the second quarter to € 19,7 million, compared with 9,6 million of the last year. The order intake in the first half of 2016 rose by 40% to 56 machines, around two thirds from new customers. Following the joint venture company 3D Metal Powder established last 14 July, the company expects full-year sales in 2016 to lay within a band of € 85 to 90 million, with a slight increase in adjusted ebitda relative to 2015. SLM is then working on breaking down barriers currently obstructing wide-ranging applications of metal-based additive manufacturing, already taking the next steps with joint ventures in software and consumables to become an integrated systems supplier.
