IHS Markit forecast the professional robots market to grow at a CARG of +46% between 2015 and 2020, driven by improvements in technology and the prices’ progressive fall. IHS Markit Service robots and drones report says revenue from professional service robots reached $ 2,6 billion in 2015, with around 20.000 units shipped, and the emerging market should accelerate even further its growth after 2020, due to the fact that more robots will move from prototype to commercialization in various applications.

The automation in agricultural industry will lead the market among industry sectors of destination, with the demand for service robots increasing considerably in many operations formerly handled by farmers. The logistic sector will also require large amounts of service robots, largely deployed in automatic warehouses, as exemplified by the Amazon’s recent acquisition of Kiva Robotics. Rapidly increasing are also the medical and healthcare industries, with surgical robot prices falling and their use in medical operation tasks growing. At last, also increasing the demand for domestic help robots, due to the aging ongoing process of global population.

Among the regions, North America will continue to lead the medical and care, agriculture, logistics, transportation and space sectors of the service robot market, because of the country’s abundant innovation resources, talented skills and large capital funds, combined with the presence of leading universities and huge consumer and commercial market. Demand for robots is also strong in Europe, especially in energy, government, civil defence and rescue, maritime, shipping and ports and docks, requiring more expensive and specialized robots, so that service robots companies need to cooperate with customers very closely for customized solutions.
