Magnetic field welding by Soyer
Soyer presents the innovative patented stud welding process SRM using a magnetic field, opening up new applications especially in the sector of automated stud welding machines, in substitution of numerous conventional mechanical and welding-related joining processes. The technology allows welding at a sheet thickness to stud diameter ratio of 1:10 instead of 1:4, as usually allowed, offering energy savings up to 70% and 60% of reduction in welding time, no arc blow effect, less distortion on the workpiece and penetration depth reduced by 60%.
During the welding process, the stud is placed in contact with the workpiece, and raised. The arc is then triggered, and guided through a magnetic field in a spiral and melts both joining parts on their entire surface. The stud immerses into the very flat penetration zone, and is inseparably connected, and the thread can be used right up to the base material. Not requiring ceramic rings as welding aid, the process also saves resources, considerably reducing the costs of disposing of welding waste.
