Inverters Omron for high efficiency PV

Posted 20 June 2016

The photovoltaic plant of Tredi Elettronica in Piacenza, northern Italy, reached record solar productivity of 1.704 hours in one year thanks to Omron inverter wide range of input voltage. The solar tracking system PV plant of 1MWp is based on a five hectares field, with 98 biaxial solar trackers, each one with an array of 72 sq m.

The plant has been designed with an inverter for each tracking pole, to have control on any single part of the plant, and among 98 inverters employed, 48 of them are KP100L from Omron, installed in a portion of the plant that produced in one year about 5% more energy output, compared to the rest of the plant using inverters of another brand, so that Tredi Elettronica is thinking about replacing step by step the non-Omron inverters with the KP100L ones, to further increase solar productivity. The better performance is due to the wider range of input voltage (225-850 Vdc) of Omron inverters, allowing them to start producing energy very early in the morning, even if voltage is low, and switch off later at evening, and also to the 3 Mppts which provide three different inputs of the inverter, which can be connected to three different strings and guarantee the best productivity also in the late afternoon with shadows of the other arrays on the plant.
