Crane applications, Kabelschlepp reliability

Posted 5 April 2016

Kabelschlepp Metool presents a push and pull force monitoring unit for increased reliability and safety in crane applications and long travel lengths. The system carries out constant measurements on the drive end connection, and in case the cable carrier is blocked by external influence, such as dirt and swarf, it prevents damage on the overall system and costly unexpected downtimes. Force limitations, lower limit and upper limit, can be programmed freely, with no travel speed limit.

The output signal of exceeded limit can be used as a PLC input signal, allowing an emergency stop, a slow down or an acoustic signal. Maintenance is not required, with no battery change, and the system is protection class IP67 compliant, with heavy duty version of the system box resistant to sea water, therefore suitable for use in seaports. The control box is directly integrated into the drive section, ensuring short length cabling, and the push-pull force monitoring unit is also available with data memory, allowing users to save and evaluate the development of the forces. The system is designed for all industrial areas, particularly for cranes and long travel applications, but also for container ports, cement works, steelworks, foundries or waste incineration plants and bulk materials handling, such as coal, ore or spoils.
