Water jet cutting, GMM acquired Techni Waterjet

GMM, the Italian manufacturer of CNC saws and edge polishers has bought Techni waterjet (TWJ), an Australian company specialized in water jets machines for water cutting in the glass, metal and stone industry.

Techni designs and makes all the major components itself, making its own pumps and writing its own software. Among the company’s solutions, the Quantum NXT pumps use direct servo pumps, an owned patented system which uses a technology first applied by Nasa in the space shuttle program. The system offers big energy saving, as it provides only as pressure as is needed and when needed. When the water jet is not cutting, the pump is in standby mode.

GMM TWJ will continue to deliver all existing product lines and services, and having the weight of GMM behind it will allow the company to be in a better position to market itself to the stone processing sector, to give it faster domestic and international growth. GMM TWJ will also benefit from the combined engineering resources of the two businesses to develop new products and services.

Following the acquisition, GMM TWJ employs 170 people working from five factories totalling nearly 20,000 msq. On the other side, the acquisition strengthens the competitive position of the GMM Group, which has forecast that the addition of TWJ will push its sales, taking the group’s sales through the €100 million mark in 2020.
