Comau and Ericsson signed an agreement to explore the potential of 5G technology for Industry 4.0, with innovative solutions and services for industrial automation. The two companies will leverage existing and future 5G network technologies, IoT platforms, cloud and big data solutions in order to increase the efficiency of smart manufacturing, maintenance and quality control. The collaboration also aims to establish a strong research and industrial community, and an innovation ecosystem where Comau and Ericsson, their customers, universities and public authorities can collaborate to boost ideas and share resources, showcasing the benefits of advanced IoT solutions for different applications.
The agreement is part of Comau’s cross-industry IoT r&d program ‘Digital workplace’, focused on delivering research, innovation and industrial pilots that use next-generation wireless and wired networks for the factory 4.0, and also part of the Ericsson’s 5G for Europe initiative, a cross-industry 5G r&d program focused on industrial pilots that use 5G networks combined with IoT and cloud technologies. Following the agreement, Comau has entered the 5G for Italy initiative, a r&d programme launched by Ericsson and TIM aimed to identify innovative solutions for monitoring and preventive maintenance enabled by the 5G technology within the cloud robotics and security segments.
