Free-cutting lead free alloys The highly extensive production pro- gramme meets most of the market’s te- chnical requirements. In addition to supplying traditional alloys in the 2000 (Al-Cu) family, namely 2011, 2017A, 2007 and 2024, and those in the 6000 (Al-Si-Mg) series, such as 6082, 6061 and 6064A, and finally the 7000 (Al-Zn-Mg) series, including the 7075 (for which there is the highest demand), in the last 20 years Eural has established itself as an innovator and developer of new so- lutions for the industry, in compliance with norms that typically apply - or will apply - in the sector, thereby catering to the ne- eds of clients around the world. More specifically, Eural has recently completed its range of free-cutting LEAD FREE aluminium alloys. European regu- lations that govern and restrict certain chemical elements in the field of mecha- nical engineering, such as lead, have re- cently become particularly stringent and increasingly geared towards a drastic reduction or elimination of its use. Lead has always been used to ensure the ma- chinability of semi-finished metallurgical products such as brass, steel and alumi- nium. In anticipation of the new, more re- strictive EU regulations, Eural has for so- me time been working on its LEAD FREE project. Its latest product is the 2077 alloy, which joins the now very well-e- stablished 6026LF and 2033. All these alloys have been developed to guarantee exceptionally high machining performan- ce features, thanks to a remarkably fine chip formation. The field of hard alloys, i.e. those with a high mechanical performance, was in fact lacking an alloy that did not pena- lise performance in terms of machina- bility. The 2077 alloy is an excellent so- lution that ensures extremely high pro- ductivity levels, while also conforming to the most stringent technical require- ments, outperforming alloys such as the 2024 and the 2014, and in some cases even able to compete with the 7075. In addition, the recently created 2077 also displays a particularly high ultimate yield strength (Rp0,2), so it can be a valid al- ternative to other metals, including the most common types of stainless steel, cast iron and brass.
