38 SPECIAL EMO 2023 Promotional message Complete machining is the trend of the future, especially for turn- ing and milling centres that can perfectly manage both technolo- gies. This is the compelling reason behind the Index development division’s decision to launch onto the market the new G420, a turning and milling centre with special features. The market re- sponse to this product was excellent from the very start, and this prompted Index to expand the series with a larger and more pow- erful version (Index G520) before continuing with a slightly smaller model (Index G220) and now, finally, the intermediate model Index G320. Index is distributed exclusively for Italy by Synergon. The new turning and milling centre The successful concept behind the machine remains the same. Thanks to a rigid, shock-absorbing base with a block structure made of mineral cast iron and large linear runners on the X and Z axes, the new G320 also offers outstanding stability and cushion- ing properties, as well as dynamic values for first-class machining results and a high productivity level. As with the Index G420 and G520 models, a key element is the milling electro-spindle posi- SYNERGON SpA Via Antonio Maffi, 19 202162 - Milano Tel. +39 02 6438436 Fax: +39 02 6426057 info@synergon.it www.synergon.it INDEX-WERKE - Hall 17 - Stand D03 The working area on G320. Its powerful drives make possible a whole range of dif- ferent drilling and milling operations, and up to 5-axis machining. Alternatively, it is possible to choose between 16.6 kW, 72 Nm, 12,000 min-1 (100% ED) or 16 kW, 45 Nm, 18,000 rpm (100% ED). In masked time the milling electro-spindle draws from a tool magazine that can contain up to 115 tools (HSK-T63 or Capto C6). Index G320 guarantees efficient machining also thanks to the two lower tool holder units. The 12 stations can be equipped with driven tools at any time. Each tool holder unit is equipped with X, Z and Y axes. Index G320’s maximum turning length of is 1,400 mm. The two identical working spindles (main and counter spindle) are liquid cooled and offer a bar passage of 102mm at 4,000rpm. They are highly dynamic and powerful (44 kW; 525 Nm torque with 100% ED). Another key feature is the large working area and the dis- tance between the main and counter spindle, which makes it pos- sible to work simultaneously on the main and counter spindle with the milling electro-spindle and the tool holder units without any risk of collision. The lowering capability of the tool holder units also helps avoid situations where there would be a risk of collision. There is also an option to automate the turning and milling centre with an integrated 2-axis handling unit and/or the iXcenter robot cell. A Siemens S 840D SL has been adapted as the control sys- tem, which as always can easily be used with the iXpanel cockpit solution on Index. Main features of Index G320 - carefully-designed working area for turning lengths of up to 1,400 mm and variable machining possibilities - identical main and counter spindle with 102 mm bar passage, torque 525 / 715 Nm (100% / 40% ED) at 4,000 rpm - powerful milling motor spindle with proven Y/B quill kinematics for complex 5-axis milling operations - two lower tool holder units with 12 VDI40 stations or 15 VDI30 stations each - high thermal and mechanical stability
