34 SPECIAL EMO 2023 Promotional message Metal Work SpA, a leading Italian company in the market of compo- nents for electro-pneumatic automation, offers a range of flowmeters capable of detecting flow rates of up to 4,000 Nl/min, The FLUX series includes the miniaturised version Flux 0, featured on two models, for flow rates of up to 50 Nl/min and for flow rates of up to 200 Nl/min. These models are typically mounted onto various sections of the machine or plant and are used to detect small leaks (or their deviation over time), rather than to accurately dose small quantities of fluid. The larger sizes measure flow rates of up to 2,000 Nl/min (Flux 1) and 4,000 Nl/min (Flux 2). These devices, typically mounted on the downpipes of the system or at the inlet point on the machine, have a sturdy anodized aluminium body with G ½” (Flux 1) and G 1” (Flux 2) inlet and outlet threads, on which the electronics for measurement and control are mounted. A flow linearisation device is mounted to the inlet, which guarantees excellent measurement accuracy; these devices can be mounted in any orientation and the screen can be rotated through 90°, 180° and 270° so that the data can always be read comfortably. Flux 1 and 2 flowmeters can be used individually or installed on an air treatment group of the Syntesi Series. They are available in versions with or without display, but always with M12 connector for power supply and signal management. The devices can be powered with variable voltage between 12 VDC (-10%) and 24 VDC (+30%). The versions with display also have a pressure and temperature transducer which, thanks to the algo- rithm implemented in the device software, means that measure- ment error is minimised to within the temperature range indicated in the catalogue. All versions have an IP65 degree of protection. The display shows the flow rate, pressure and temperature values as well as the graphs of the instantaneous and cumulative quantities. The value of electrical power used to produce the measured flow is also calculated and displayed. New wireless version The most important news relating to the Flux Series, sizes 1 and 2, concerns the release of wireless versions that are able to communicate with Ethernet networks (through the MQTT communication protocol) and mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets with a Bluetooth connection, by means of an app specially developed for the purpose by Metal Work. Through the app, in addition to viewing the measured quantities, it is possible to change all the settings of the flowmeters and to view the measured values in real time. In this way the Fluxes can be configured and monitored without the need for a physical connection. In fact, the Metal Work FluxUp APP can be connected – via Bluetooth from a smartphone – to the Metal Work flowmeters of the Flux 1 and 2 series, which are equipped with a wireless interface. Through Metal Work FluxUp it is possible to view all the data detected by FLUX and set all the operating parameters in real time. The Wireless versions of Flux 1 and 2 can be connected to a Wi-Fi net- work via an access point or a gateway, to monitor and gather data on all the measured quantities of the gas concerned. The MQTT commu- nication protocol is used for this purpose, precisely because it is such a widely-used standard for this type of application. In other words, the Fluxes are compatible with all advanced diagnostic and predictive data collection and processing systems. Predictive system diagnosis By collecting data from the field a predictive diagnosis of the system can be carried out, thereby ensuring constant control of the operating parameters and operation of the machines and the pneumatic system. It also makes it possible to identify leaks and thus avoid energy waste. The software can be implemented with analysis functions for control of machine efficiency, consumption trends and long-term forecasts (sys- tem improvement evaluation). Once the application parameters have been set, each individual Flux will be able to monitor the specific section of the system in which it is installed, sending energy consumption data to the system manager, as well as alerting to any additional alarms that have been set off by excessive losses or breakages.
