Fire-fighting Aventics pneumatics

The airport crash tender FLF Z8 from Albert Ziegler has Aventics pneumatics on board, developed for mobile vehicles industry. The FLF Z8 are employed in the Frankfurt airport fire extinguishing system, are 12 meters long, with a weight of 51 tons and are able to fight fire from a distance of 90 meters, volleying up to 10.000 l/min of water, foam and powder. The high pump capacity requires powerful pneumatic components, offering high flow rates, large cylinders, reliability and 100% availability.

The special application employs Aventics cylinders series PRA in corrosion resistant version, with stainless steel piston rods and metal scrapers, CD01 and HF03-LG series valve systems for the control of the actuators, and NL2 series pressure regulators lowering filter pressure when the vehicle is standing in the hall. Aventics supplied the solution ready for installation, thanks to the online assembly configurator, also simplifying purchase and logistic. Safety has also been carefully engineered: in case of electricity failure, crew can switch to manual emergency operation of the pneumatic valves.
